Prime Minister Denkov Stands Firm Against Grain Producers’ Protest

The grain producers’ protest is taking on a political character, but the government will not give in to blackmail, Prime Minister Mykola Denkov said on Friday on the occasion of agricultural protests scheduled for next week due to the lifting of the ban on grain imports from Ukraine. Denkov said that some of the people behind the resentment “are close to certain political persons”.

In fact, some of the branch workers who led the protest are related to President Rumen Radev.

We will not give in to blackmail attempts

“Increasingly, this protest is beginning to acquire a political character – with the requests with the parties, and with the fact that some of the people who organized the protests are close to certain political figures. The government will not give in to blackmail attempts.”Denkov said.

According to Denkov the decision reflects the interests of all citizens.

“This decision benefits all citizens who have to pay for food, cereals, oil. Last year during the war and beyond, this sector reported 20-25% profits. When someone says that the sector is dying, I can assure them that a sector with such profit margins is nothing short of enviable. That there are problems this year is another matter, they need to be targeted. I am convinced that there are companies that continue to make profits and others that are struggling. I call on all parts of the agricultural sector to think about what concerns them as a problem and to discuss”added the Prime Minister.

The agricultural sector has been invited to a meeting in the MS on Saturday

The Prime Minister also indicated that he invited the agricultural sector to a meeting on Saturday.

A day ago, the National Assembly took a position that Bulgaria should not insist on the continuation of the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain into our country. As a result, the grain producers announced that they would start protest actions from September 18, threatening a blockade of Sofia on September 19.

At the same time, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Bulgaria and stated that it sets an example of true solidarity.
