There will be a task force to look at the future of Audi Brussels. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo (Open VLD) responded this on Thursday to a question from MP Tim Vandenput (Open VLD).
Earlier this week it was announced that the new generation of the luxury SUV model Q8 e-tron will no longer be produced at the Vorst factory from 2027. This caused uncertainty among the factory’s employees. “The certainty I can offer is that we will tackle this file and make the factory’s assets as strong as possible,” Prime Minister De Croo said during question time in Parliament. For example, the European car industry is under pressure due to the electrification revolution, but the factories in our country have a lot of expertise in this area.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the factory currently produces 50,000 cars of the model currently produced in Forest until 2027. “But the question is what the next model would be.” De Croo will soon meet with Audi CEO Gernot Döllner.
De Croo has also had various contacts with the other governments involved and with the municipality of Vorst, with the intention of putting together a task force “that, together with local management, can see how we can provide certainty”.
