Curaçao Prime Minister Gilmar ‘Pik’ Pisas consulted with comedian and entrepreneur Jandino Asporaat on Monday afternoon (local time) about the heavy damage suffered by the Hòfi Mango park due to excessive rainfall last Saturday. The island’s government announced this on Monday evening.

Asporaat owns the nature park. During the meeting, he presented a plan to the Prime Minister and his advisors to make changes to the island’s water management.

It has been agreed that the Ministries of Health, Nature and Environment and VVRP (Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning), together with experts from Jandino’s organization, will evaluate the current water management in Curaçao as a whole and then come up with a concrete plan. The Asporaat park is visited on Tuesday morning.

During that visit, the damage will be assessed and next steps will be discussed. Both Prime Minister Pisas and Jandino Asporaat say they are satisfied with the results of this first meeting. Asporaat had announced on social media that its park was destroyed due to poor water management by the island.

Curaçao experienced heavy rainfall on Saturday, May 4. That caused several floods and mudslides in the western part of the island. Several beaches were damaged. In Hòfi Mango there is natural damage and buildings were also damaged. No one was injured.
