Welsh Prime Minister Mark Drakeford announced plans for a year of activity to celebrate and strengthen the historic ties between Wales and Germany.

The Welsh Government says this is part of a renewed effort to raise the international profile of Wales and increase cooperation after EU membership.

The Prime Minister said that Wales Expo Germany 2021 will highlight a year of activity to highlight Germany-Wales relations.

“Our already close relationship with Germany has grown more than ever, and now we want to celebrate these relationships more than ever and see them blossom,” he said.

“We are not a nation defined by Brexit, but a nation that has always been outward-looking, global and welcoming.

“I’m very excited to begin 2021 by celebrating our close historical ties between Wales and Germany. It is not only a celebration of our economic relationship with a great European ally, but also of culture and globalization. Our two countries have always worked closely together in a number of fields such as science, education and innovation, and culture, tourism and the arts. We intend that these close relationships will continue to flourish. “

Scheduled events will highlight business networks in Wales and Germany, cultural ties and other partnerships.

Prime Minister Mark Drakeford will begin a year of celebration on Monday 11 January with a virtual meeting with German Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Hare Andreas Michaelis.

Deputy Minister and President Whip Jane Hutt will attend a virtual seminar with the German community in Wales, along with Helga Rother Symonds, German Honorary Consul in Wales, and Professor Colin Reordan, President and Vice Chancellor of Cardiff University.

From the fire fighters from Ravensburg to the parishes of Rhondda Cynon Taf, cities and parishes in our country have come together and friendships have been made.

These relationships will flourish, and as Wells embarks on a new journey on the world stage, we’ve made it clear that we are open to business, that we welcome new opportunities, and that the friendship between us will remain strong.

“However, we may have left the European Union and the cultural and historical ties between Wales and our European partners will not be broken.”
