Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, today held an expanded meeting on commodity price controls, in the presence of Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi, Minister of Supply and Domestic Trade, Dr. Ayman Hossam, Head of ‘Consumer Protection Agency, Major General Essam Al-Azab, assistant deputy minister of the interior for the economic sector, and officials of the authorities concerned.
Dr Mostafa Madbouly stressed that in light of the exceptional circumstances countries of the world are currently experiencing and an unprecedented crisis, including Egypt, it has become locally necessary for the issue to state prices for all goods at the level of the Republic, while dealing with the utmost resoluteness any unannounced prices, recalling that the government’s priority at this stage is to ensure the availability of goods at adequate prices, therefore will establish declared controls and strict procedures against those who do not they adhere to the instructions of the State in this regard.
The President of the Council of Ministers specified that there are clear tasks for all the supervisory bodies to agree on a precise deadline, after which the periodic changeover will take place, and to deal immediately with any points of sale – such as retailers and shops – that do not adhere to the announcement of the prices of the goods, either exaggerates the prices, like those who hoard goods, or hides it from the citizens, emphasizing that the agencies have the task of closing the point of sale, confiscating the goods they offer and reselling them for the benefit of citizens, as a specific period will be given to reconcile the situation, after which the enforcement agencies will move to implement these assignments.
