Prime Day: Amazon postpones its commercial operation in October

Faced with the rapid spread of the coronavirus, especially in the United States, Amazon finally gave up organizing its very lucrative Prime Day this summer. The event accompanied by a rain of promotions could take place in October.

The Covid-19 got the better of Amazon’s calendar. After weeks of leaks suggesting a possible postponement to August, then to September, but never before the titan of online commerce confirms anything, it is finally by an email addressed to third-party sellers that the merchant sold the wick. Prime Day, the big promotion festival in mid-July, cannot take place this summer. The firm does not wish to give a new date, but still invites the sellers to reserve the week of October 5 in case.

For Amazon, the postponement of Prime Day is not anecdotal. Last year, the event exploded all sales records, reaching in two days (July 15 and 16) to surpass cumulative Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2018 numbers. The health situation across the Atlantic, however, leaves little choice for the e-merchant. While the coronavirus is spreading faster and faster in the United States, it cannot ask its employees to regroup in warehouses to keep them running at full speed and significantly contribute to the circulation of delivery personnel throughout the country.

On the logistical level, certain observers further advance the theory that the giant’s stocks are well underway, online trade having been heavily solicited in the spring due to containment measures. Many third-party sellers have also sold almost all of their goods and are now facing resupply difficulties, greatly limiting the economic benefit of a Prime Day held in mid-July or even this summer.

Amazon does not want to give more information or comment on the situation at this time. The firm only responds to requests that no official announcement has been made about Prime Day 2020.
