Prima TV’s Disastrous Bet on Zdenek Pohlreich: A Television Flop

Betting on one card all the time may not pay off. Currently, Prima TV, which is dealing with a series of failures, is bitterly convinced of this, so it hoped that the renewed cooperation with the popular chef Zdenek Pohlreich would win back some of its viewers.

Pohlreich’s biggest flop

Nothing could be further from the truth, and another saying about two doing the same thing is not always the same thing could be applied to this. This time, Prima bet on apparent certainty, actually several times as much. Her new program Czech Republic on the grill is more or less based on the format of the widely watched Masterchef, but it also targets barbecues, which are so popular in the Czech Republic. On top of everything, it is protected by Zdeněk Pohlreich, who is very popular with the Czech audience.

On paper, it looks like a project that is bound to attract an audience of millions. Anything below that should be considered a failure, especially when you put such a show in the most lucrative time slot, the eight o’clock Saturday night.

And how did it turn out? The world is surprised, but it is an absolute flop, the likes of which television history barely remembers. Already the first episode of the program Czech Republic on the grill, which Prima heavily enticed in the advertising campaign and where viewers were supposed to familiarize themselves with the new format, indicated that something was wrong here. Only 333,000 viewers over the age of 15 watched it.

Prima failed again

If anyone was hoping that this issue would lead the show to better tomorrows, they had to be disappointed this weekend. It obviously did not impress the audience and only 196,000 watched the second episode. Now it can be expected that the show will have a steep downward trend and can clearly be called a mess.

I really like Zdenek, but lately he’s getting into every stupid thing that will bring some duck. Yes Boss! was a format that suited him, and then it went from ten to five. Well, this is the absolute bottom. A dozen contests without an idea, a pinch of innovation, without a single second of any tension,” stated one of the reviewers on the server ČSFDwho awarded the show one star.

It will probably happen that Prima will have to move it from the lucrative airtime to somewhere on weekdays from ten o’clock, where the first season will finish and the water will close over it. Just for comparison, Nova with its Superlov recorded 900 thousand viewers on Saturday. Not a blockbuster either, but it’s almost five times more than the competition with which it should play an even game.

After the completely botched series Eliška and Damián, Prima claims another embarrassment. At the same time, it turns out that one of its main faces, Zdeněk Pohlreich, has quite possibly eaten too much of the audience and stops working. This is not good news at a time when another series of Yes, Boss is coming up, which should once again be one of the main draws of television.
