Prima has reduced the resolution of its stations in DVB-T2

At the beginning of the year, the Prima television group reduced the picture quality of its stations in free terrestrial broadcasting. All of its programs, with the exception of CNN Prima News, are now distributed at a resolution of 960 × 540 pixels. Reduced resolution is visible to the naked eye on larger diagonal TVs.

The CNN Prima News news program remains at a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels, for which the reduced quality would be at the expense of the readability of the text bars.

The intention is to reduce the resolution in DVB-T2 announced Prima in September 2021 at the Digimedia conference. At the time, she considered keeping at least the main station in high definition, but in the end, she was no exception.

Private stations generally try to motivate viewers to move to paid platforms. According to a survey by Atmedia, the availability of HD resolution is a reason for 32% of viewers to start paying for Internet, satellite or cable TV.
