Pride flags are torn down in Oslo

At Ulsrud upper secondary school, someone had tried to destroy the flag string and light the pride flag that waved in the schoolyard. It has now moved to a more difficult place to access at school.

The flag at Bøler school was stolen on Friday night. When a new flag was hoisted, it was also stolen after a few minutes, writes Vårt Oslo. The same thing happened with the third flag.

– A new flag was raised at 4 pm today. At 16.50 it was stolen. Now we are both sad and restless, writes Bøler school on Facebook.

On Friday afternoon, flag number three was hoisted. During Saturday, this has also been stolen.

– We are simply shocked and sad that someone is so provoked by a flag that celebrates love, equality and diversity that they bring tools to cut over the brass hooks that attach the flag, the school writes.

A total of four schools in Oslo have had rainbow flags stolen. This applies to both primary, secondary and upper secondary schools, the education agency says NRK.

They are now trying to get new flags for the schools as soon as possible. There has also been vandalism on the flagpole of Ytre Enebakk school in connection with pride celebrations.

To you who steal these flags: For me, you could just as easily hit me with your fist in the stomach. I get so upset and angry, says Jon Reidar Øyan Avisa Oslo.

He is the leader of the Homonettverket in the Labor Party and sits on the city council. This year’s Oslo Pride will be held from 18 to 27 June.
