Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The iPhone 11 can be considered as one of Apple’s HP series that is equipped with significant design innovations. Starting from this line, people recognize the term ‘iPhone Boba’.

This cellphone was launched in 2019. 4 years old, now the iPhone 11 is still being sold on the market at low prices. Monitoring by CNBC Indonesia on the sites of the official distributors iBox and Digimap, the price for the new iPhone 11 unit starts at IDR 7 million.

This price decreased by IDR 2.8 million compared to when it was first released, which was IDR 9.8 million. You can also get a lower price if you buy a used unit (secondhand) at the stall online nor offline.

If you want a newer series, the iPhone 12 can be an option. This cellphone has dropped the price to IDR 11 million for the 64GB memory model. When it was first launched, the iPhone 12 was set at IDR 15 million, aka IDR 4 million more expensive.

The question is, are the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 still worth buying in 2023? Check out some of the things that could be considered below.

iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 design, still relevant?

As alluded to earlier, the iPhone 11 is the first to introduce the ‘boba’ design. This design language was then carried over to the iPhone 12, and is even still used on the latest iPhone 14.

The difference is, on the iPhone 11 and 12 the boba camera design is arranged vertically downwards. Meanwhile, the iPhone 13 and 14 boba cameras are placed crosswise.

The body shape of the iPhone 11 is still curved on the sides. While on the iPhone 12, Apple returned the straight side shape reminiscent of the iPhone 4 and 5 era. This design was continued again on the iPhone 13 and 14.

The iPhone 11 and 12 both use a 6.1-inch screen which is also maintained on the iPhone 14. The difference is that the iPhone 11 still uses the Liquid Retina IPS LCD screen type, while the iPhone 12 and 14 improve with the Super Retina XDR OLED screen.

iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 cameras, still okay?

Both iPhones have 12MP dual cameras (ultrawide and wide) which is also maintained on the iPhone 14. Apple is known for not being interested in competing to increase megapixel numbers.

iPhone camera innovation tends towards features and software. Even though the iPhone 14 camera is more sophisticated with the ‘Photonic Engine’ feature and more qualified bokeh, the camera features on the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 are still reliable.

The two old cellphones are equipped with capabilities zoom optical zoom out 2x and zoom digital 5x, 4k recording, image stabilization, plus flash true tone.

The front camera is still the same as the 12MP quality sensor on the latest iPhone 11, 12, and even 14. The difference is in features and software which is more improved on the latest iPhone.

iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 performance, still fierce?

The iPhone 11 is powered by the A13 Bionic chip, while the iPhone 12 uses the newer version A14 Bionic. In terms of performance, you could say the two chips are quite tough to use chattingsocial media, and everyday games.

Even chip The A13 Bionic is still used on the 9th generation iPad released in 2021. When compared with chip A15 Bionic on the iPhone 14 series, of course its performance is still below. However, with low prices and heavy use of multimedia, the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 are guaranteed to be reliable.

Software iPhone 11 and iPhone 12, can it still be updated?

The age of using an iPhone in general is indeed more durable than an Android cellphone. Usually, Apple provides an update system for 6 years in each iPhone series.

For iPhone 11 and 12, each can still be updated to the latest iOS 16 operating system from Apple. If we follow tradition, the 4 year old iPhone 11 will still get updates software up to 2 years ahead.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 12, which is 3 years old, can still breathe long for the next 3 years.

Should I buy the iPhone 11 or 12 in 2023?

If you intend to buy an iPhone but don’t have one yet budget enough to bring home the iPhone 14, the two older iPhones that the CNBC Indonesia team described above are still very much worth buying.

Judging from the nominal, the iPhone 11 is indeed cheaper, starting at IDR 7 million. However, if you have more budget, the iPhone 12 is cheaper at IDR 11 million.

The reason is, from the first release price, the iPhone 11 only dropped Rp. 2.8 million. Meanwhile, the iPhone 12 fell by Rp. 4 million. It should also be taken into consideration that the iPhone 12 already supports the 5G network. This is a plus point compared to the iPhone 11 which is stuck on 4G LTE.
