Prices for social goods in Kazakhstan will be allowed to float freely

news-id-117792" style="display:inline;">Kazakhstan will abandon state regulation of prices for socially important food products. The Ministry of Trade and Integration said LSthe cost of which products will be released into free floating first.

According to the department, this process will take place in two stages. It is planned that the mechanism for establishing maximum and threshold prices for NWPT will be legislatively abolished from the first half of 2024 for nine goods, and for the remaining 10 – from the first half of 2025.

It is noted that one of the main conditions for abandoning state regulation is 100% meeting the needs of the domestic market with domestic products. In particular, they first want to cancel the introduction of maximum permissible retail prices for salt, eggs, milk, wheat flour, potatoes, rice, buckwheat, and bread.

“And in the future, for all goods from the NWPT list: table carrots, onions, white cabbage, sunflower oil, beef (scapular-thoracic part with bones), chicken meat (femur and tibia with adjacent pulp), kefir 2 .5% fat in soft packaging, butter (unsalted, at least 72.5% fat, without fillers and vegetable fats), cottage cheese (5-9% fat), granulated white sugar,” the department said.

The ministry assured that for the availability of these products, control over compliance with the 15% trade markup will be maintained. In addition, as part of the new amendments, local authorities will no longer have the right to approve retail and maximum prices for NWPT and advise on these issues.
