Application fees for border crossing programs express for pre-approved travelers, such as SENTRY y Global Entrywill change to $120 starting Tuesday, US Customs and Border Protection announced.
This is the first fee adjustment for such programs, which allow faster inspections for enrolled travelers upon arrival in the United States, since 2008, officials said.
CBP said the change will allow the agency to “improve customer service through technological improvements, streamlined processes, and expansion to additional ports on the northern border.”
The agency has now established a uniform price for three border crossing programs. Starting Tuesday, the Global Entry fee will increase from $100 to $120, while SENTRI will decrease from $122.50 to $120. The program NEXUS at the border between the United States and Canada will increase from $50 to $120.
Registration is valid for five years.
In another change, applicants under the age of 18 will not have to pay anything if one of their parents or legal guardian is already a member or is applying for the same SENTRI or Global Entry program at the same time, officials said. Prior to this, minors were charged the full Global Entry application fee, while a family option plan existed for SENTRI.
Global Entry and SENTRI application fees include registration of a vehicle. The $42 fee to add an additional vehicle after the initial application or renewal process remains the same.
SENTRI allows travelers to cross the border faster by using designated lanes at land ports of entry. The program is available for both vehicles and pedestrians. Global Entry is a similar program used at some international airports.
Global Entry travelers can cross through SENTRI lanes, and eligible SENTRI enrollees can use the check-in kiosks. Global Entry at airportsas long as they meet certain requirements.
Interested persons can apply online at ttp.dhs.gov. All applicants undergo a thorough background check and in-person interview.
