Prices for leisure products increased

The prices for leisure goods rose slightly more in July than those for other products and services. This is shown by the leisure price index published on Thursday by the comparison service Comparis.

The price of these goods has increased by 1.6 percent within a year, while the official annual inflation rate according to the national consumer price index was only 1.3 percent. The Comparis index measures inflation in the areas of leisure and culture as well as hospitality and travel.

Spending on radio and television has increased particularly sharply over the past year (+9.8%). The main reason for this is the steep price increases for popular streaming services such as Netflix and Spotify. There is also a trend towards taking out multiple subscriptions. In addition, TV subscriptions from Swiss telecom providers have also tended to become more expensive.

Leisure courses (+7.9%), package holidays (+5.7%) and mountain railways (+4.4%) have also become massively more expensive compared to the previous year.

According to Comparis, inflation in leisure goods is also above average when compared over several years. The leisure price index rose by 9.6 percent in the last five years, while the national consumer price index only rose by 6.2 percent.
