(The online newspaper): Christmas marzipan is among the more popular products in grocery stores at Christmas time. They have already been on sale for a while, and now the prices of the well-known marzipan pig are dropping sharply.
Nettavisen has checked the price, and compared it with the previous check, which was on 10 November.
It turns out that the price of Kiwi is plummeting, and one product has more than halved its price in less than a month.
This cost large and small marzipan pigs on 10 November:
- Large marzipan pig with chocolate: 59.90
- Small marzipan pig without chocolate: 26.90
This is what the prices look like on 5 December:
- Large marzipan pig with chocolate: 36.90
- Small marzipan pig without chocolate: 11.80
– Extra tough competition this year
This means that small marzipan pigs have fallen by 56 per cent in less than a month, while large marzipan pigs have fallen by 38 per cent in price.
Kiwi confirms that the interest in Christmas products means that they see themselves having to drop prices.
– There is extra tough competition now before Christmas, and these products have been pushed down and given an abnormally low price, writes Nora Mile Helgesen, communications manager at Kiwi, to Nettavisen.
She says that the store has made several hundred price changes daily recently.
– These are products that are popular at Christmas, and that many of our customers appreciate being able to enjoy themselves at Christmas time, says the communications manager.
The price posters showed the wrong price
Prices have changed dramatically at Christmas, which is not new. This led to Kiwi having the wrong price for a number of items on the paper posters. Nettavisen was recently able to say that Kiwi had marzipan sausages at a price of 37.40 on the poster, but that the package actually cost 28.90 at the checkout.
Among other things, these prices were wrong on 2 December:
- Gingerbread: 5.3 percent for high price.
- Hamar and Lillehammer Christmas soda in a glass bottle with sugar: 14.4 per cent too high a price.
- Hamar and Lillehammer Christmas soda in a glass bottle without sugar; 15.5 percent high price.
- Small Christmas marzipan pig: 31.8 per cent too high a price.
– We are in an insanely hectic period in our stores with frequent price changes, goods to be replenished and many customers to be served, replied director of communications at Kiwi Kristine Arvin to Nettavisen.
– Our 13,600 employees make a fantastic effort to have correct price posters on all goods at all times, she said further.
