Price War on Cars: Skoda, Nissan Leaf, Tesla, and Nio Slash Prices

You must have been sleeping under a rock this summer not to have realized that there is sometimes a fierce price war on cars.

Among other things, Skoda has announced a price cut of NOK 175,000 on the popular Enyaq model. The best seller Nissan Leaf has been greatly reduced and Tesla has also cut prices on several occasions.

And now Nio is also throwing itself around, cutting the price of its models by up to NOK 150,000 overnight, reports Automotive industry24.

The company stands out in the market: They offer the option of changing batteries at automatic battery exchange stations. This means you get a fully charged battery in around six minutes.

To get the battery replacement option, you buy a car without a battery – and instead rent the battery “as a service”. The price of battery rental is unchanged.

Applies to cars in stock

– This is a limited number of cars that we have in stock. But we have a policy of always having cars in stock, so it is not a stock-out, says communications manager Asbjørn Mitusch at Nio to Nettavisen.

He says that this does not apply to models that need to be specially configured.

– How temporary is this?

– It is temporary, is a short answer from Mitusch.

NOK 35-150,000

The company implements price cuts on all its models, but the reduction is greatest on the large 6- or 7-seater SUV ES8, which is cut by up to NOK 150,000.

Their cheapest model, the ET5, also gets the smallest price cut of NOK 35,000. While ET7 is cut by NOK 109,000.
