ANTIGONE
from Sophie Deraspe
The 6e class CI04 of the Lycée de Garçons de Luxembourg was invited to watch and analyze 5 films from the children and youth program 2021. The PRICE OF THE SCHOOL JURY was presented during the Awards Night of the Festival on March 13, 2021 in the Kinepolis Kirchberg Antigone by Sophie Deraspe.
“We, the 6e class CI04 of the Lycée de Garçons de Luxembourg, would like to share our appreciation for the films that were able to see during the LuxFilmFest before we present our reasoned decision on this year’s winning film.
We would like to unanimously highlight the quality of the films and documentaries that we were able to see and that we discussed a lot in class. The subjects that were covered – youth, immigration, exclusion or marginalization, friendship, brotherhood, courage, humanity, tolerance and finally hope, determination and optimism – challenged us greatly and made us reflect on the lives of the different protagonists.
Here are some collected statements to illustrate our views:
“Hope is my favorite topic because as long as you have hope and are optimistic, you can achieve anything.” Nicolas on these protagonists of From Here
“I have the subject of courage and the film Antigone chosen because I find the young girl very brave. She is risking her life to get her brother out of prison. ”Chloë
“I think the subject of tolerance will be featured in the film Rocca changes the world well presented because you can see very clearly how people are judged only because of their style, or just because they are different. ”Sofiya
“In my opinion, the film did Antigone the theme of hope and determination was very well presented. Antigone never gave up on her friends or family members even though she knew they were wrong or guilty. ”Chiara
“I chose the theme of humanity because I think it sums up perfectly all of the themes these films are about. It is very important to talk about it. ”Johana
“I chose courage because I often have to cope on my own in everyday life. The film Antigone appealed to me the most in this regard. ”Paloma
After all, we are proud of the film ANTIGONE to be declared the winner of the PRICE OF THE SCHOOL JURY of the LuxFilmFest 2021.
Our choice is justified by the following arguments:
First of all, this film seems to us perfectly suited for the youth program. The music, the camera work and the picture triggered a lot of emotions during the presentation. In addition, the close-ups made it possible to decipher the feelings of the protagonists. The issues that the film addresses are very present in society and it is a film that we will not soon forget. Indeed, the emotions aroused will stick in our minds.
The film relates both to Greek mythology and current events, which is another positive point in our eyes. Since this film is really very special, we think that it stimulates the viewers to reflect and, thanks to an approach that is not all black and white, does not provoke a cinematic “déjà-vu”.
Thank you for letting us discover these films. It was really an honor and a pleasure for us to have participated in the festival as a school jury.
