Electric cars have far fewer parts than those with internal combustion engines, but are sold at a much higher price. This is largely due to the costs associated with the change in value of the new technologies used by the manufacturers and, above all, the price of the battery packs.

Although it is rarely disclosed by the manufacturer, the value of the battery in some cases can exceed half the price of the entire electric vehicle, but this percentage varies greatly from one car to another. another car. Brand, chemistry, size, capacity and other characteristics have a significant impact on the cost of batteries.

In this context, French journalists from L’argus recently revealed, according to LifeNews.ro, the prices of the batteries installed in the electric and hybrid models of the Dacia models that available on the market in 2024. This is the price with all taxes included available at the after-sale.

According to them, although the Renault group currently uses NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) batteries from the South Korean supplier LG Chem for most of its electric vehicles, in the case of the Dacia Spring , a vehicle assembled in China, the local supplier Sunwoda was chosen. Therefore, the price of the model could be kept lower than the price of competitors on the European market.

More precisely, according to L’argus, the price of the 26.8 kWh battery pack included in the Dacia Spring equipment is 7,000 euros, less than half of the final price of the car (18,900 euros at the at least in France). For comparison, in the case of the Renault Twingo, a model with a 22 kWh battery and a minimum price of 21,500 euros, the cost of the battery pack is 12,000 euros. It is important to note that while the Spring is based on a 262.8V architecture, the Twingo has a 400V one.

As for the two Dacia models that can be bought in a full hybrid version (both 1.6 Hybrid 140) – Jogger and Duster 3 – the price of the small 1.2 kWh battery pack is 3,500 euros.
