The rules for subsidizing electric motorbike consumers will soon be completed. The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the subsidy policy would be issued in early February 2023. For the amount, said Luhut, consumers of electric motorbikes receive subsidies of around Rp. 7 million.
“Hopefully next week, early February. Approximately Rp. 7 million for new electric motorbikes and all of them will be announced later, priority will be given to simple people,” said Luhut at the 2023 Saratoga Investment Summit.
Providing subsidies clearly makes it easier for consumers who want to buy an electric motorbike. As is known, when compared to conventional fueled motorbikes, the price of electric motorbikes is not cheaper. It is also hoped that the transition to electric vehicles can be faster. Nevertheless, the government requires that subsidies be given only to vehicles that already have factories in Indonesia.
“One condition. He must have facilities, which means he must have a factory in Indonesia. That’s a general requirement,” said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita at the End of 2022 Press Conference & 2023 Industry Outlook Seminar recently.
Currently, 35 companies have registered that produce two-wheeled motorcycles and three-wheeled versions of battery electric vehicles (BEV) locally. Some of the brands include Alva One, Gesits, Viar, Polytron, United Motor, Charged, and Volta.
