The representative of the “More Hotel Liepāja” hotel called the prices of the guest house “a little shameless”, while the representative of the “Liepui” hostel stated that it would be more valuable to go on vacation to warm countries for the mentioned amount.
Representatives of the Latvian Hotel and Restaurant Association (LVRA) claim that price increases during large-scale events are a common practice all over the world and vacationers should be aware of them.
“Prices will increase during popular cultural events. For how much? It is the free choice of each entrepreneur,” the association said.
LVRA claims that they do not make any recommendations on accommodation costs and do not interfere in private business in any way. The purpose of the association is to inform hotel owners about changes in legislation and to provide recommendations for attracting tourists and promoting hotel occupancy.
Maestro Design hotels in Liepāja increased their prices almost fourfold during the concert.
The representatives of the hotel explained that the accommodation business in Liepāja is seasonal and the largest influx of tourists is observed in the warm months, therefore, as the demand increases, the prices are also increased. In winter, tourism in Liepāja is practically non-existent, therefore the prices in the off-season are much lower.
“Hotels make money when they can make money – that’s business,” the hotel representatives said.
They also added that the number of “Maestro Design” rooms is limited, and this is also one of the aspects that affects the pricing policy. In addition, the offer in Liepāja is quite wide and everyone can find a suitable place to stay.
