Los Mets they’re looking to improve at receiver, but the market’s top backup may get more than they’re willing to give up. According to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman, Cubs asking price for receiver Willson Contreras is “still higher than they would like”. Heyman noted that the Padres, Astros, Rays and others are seen as suitable for Contreras.
As the Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported in previous days, the Mets may shift their focus to Red Sox DH JD Martinez and catcher Christian Vazquez.
Mets have been on Willson Contreras but price still higher than they’d like. Padres, Astros, Rays among others that would fit for Contreras.

The Mets, who sit atop the NL East, have been linked to Contreras for weeks.
Contreras, a free agent after this season, leads all NL catchers with an .828 OPS, while Mets catchers have combined for an MLB-worst .515 OPS this season.
