Algemeen Boerensyndicaat, the interest group for farmers active in Flanders, protested at Aldi today. The farmers’ union is also not satisfied with the “stunt prices” that some retailers are charging for milk.
Farmers rarely negotiate directly with supermarkets. The Confederation of the Dairy Industry does and confirms the recent price drop. Where previously 0.65 euros per liter was paid, the Dutch AH recently launched a stunt price of 0.55 euros.
“Recently, Aldi decided to follow the very low price level of Albert Heijn. It lowered its prices by 0.10 euros per litre, at a time when all raw material prices are rising.”
The interest representative calculates that a price decrease of 10 cents in Belgium corresponds to a value destruction of more than 30 million euros. “Dairy farmers can use this money more than to become more sustainable and to realize a living income.”
