What’s new on PS5 Pro
The new PS5 Pro has three key features that set it apart from the PS5, its ‘younger’ sibling:
Improved GPU
Cerny noted that the PS5 Pro features an improved graphics processing unit (GPU), which has 67% more compute units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. This translates into better visuals and a faster, smoother gaming experience.
Advanced Ray Tracing
The Sony-owned company also said it has added more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic light reflection and refraction. This allows rays to be projected at twice, and sometimes three times, the speed of the PS5 console. Ray tracing simulates the way light interacts with objects in a 3D scene in a video game, so the better the quality, the more immersive and realistic the experience for the player.
AI-powered upscaling
Also unveiled was PlayStation Spectral Super resolution, an AI-powered upscaling that uses machine learning-based technology to deliver super-sharp image clarity by adding more detail.
Other improvements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can be applied to over 8,500 backwards compatible PS4 games that are playable on PS5 Pro. This feature can stabilize or improve the performance of compatible PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced image quality for PS4 games is also available to upscale the resolution on select PS4 games.
PS5 Pro will also launch with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7 (delivering faster speeds and lower latency to your connected devices), in territories that support this standard.
New design
As for the physical appearance of the new console, the look of the PS5 has been maintained. It is also compatible with PS5 accessories, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access controller, Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore.
The difference is that players can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc drive or change console covers when they become available.
When is it on sale and what is its price?
The PS5 Pro will be available on November 7, 2024 for $699.99, just over 14,000 Mexican pesos.
