Price Changes in Beef and Other Meats: September 2023 Analysis

The price of beef increased 1% in September, according to international value indices prepared by the FAO. Meanwhile, the other three important meats lowered it between 1 and 3%.

Consequently, last month the weighting of all meats fell 1% month-on-month.

Compared to September 2022, the only one with a higher price is pork, 4%, while beef fell 6%; poultry, 11% and sheep, 16%.

In relation to the main food groups, the general index remained in the ninth month of the year, with a positive influence from cereals (1%) and sugar (10%), while the others exerted downward pressure: meat (1%) , dairy (2%) and vegetable oils (4%).

In one year, the only item with increases was sugar, with a solid 48%, while, of the others, meat had the slightest decrease (5%), cereals fell 15%, dairy products 21% and oils 24%.
