Second Challenge Cup semi-final this Sunday between RC Toulon and Treviso. Unhappy finalist last year, Toulon will obviously try to do better this season by winning the title. 5th with 57 points in the top 14, the RCT is on track to return to the final stages and the Champions Cup next year and can therefore pay particular attention to this semi-final. Moreover, the Mignoni-Azema duo largely rotated last week on the lawn of Castres (31-18). Not enough to call into question the positive momentum of the Toulonnais for a few weeks. By chaining victories and big scores before this setback, Toulon at least sent a strong message to their opponents: it will be very difficult to come and get them. Moreover, the RCT achieved a full house in the competition by winning these 6 European meetings.
It’s a little surprise to find the Italian team from Treviso in the semi-finals. Only a small one because despite its status, Treviso is having a more than honorable season this year. 11th in the URC, the Italians have had a very good European run so far. Only beaten by Stade Français at the opening (24-14), Bortolami’s men then scored a full card and therefore remain on a good qualification acquired in the quarter-finals against Cardiff (27-23).
