Those of you who have been there since last weekend may have been challenged by this delimited construction site in the middle of Place Piquand. Know that it is in fact a preventive archaeological excavation operation. INRAP researchers will work on site in the coming days in search of possible remains.
A small part of the castle esplanade has already been excavated in this way. Other places in the medieval city will follow by the start of the summer. These excavations are carried out at the request of the City of Montluçon, in anticipation of possible developments in the future to “improve the living environment” and “continue the enhancement of heritage”.
The cultural assistant to the City of Montluçon Alric Berton.
Excavations have therefore begun on Place Piquand, and others will therefore be carried out on Place Maugenest, Rue Porte Bretonnie, Rue du Faubourg Saint-Pierre and Place de la Poterie. The City promises that this work will have no visual impact since the excavated sites are returned to the same as soon as the work is completed. The end of all his excavations is scheduled for mid-June. The results are known a month later.
