Prevention and Recommendations for Respiratory Infections: Access to Testing for SARS-CoV-2 in Bihor County

Considering the large day/night temperature variations and the decrease in the next period of the average daily atmospheric temperatures, for the prevention and limitation of illnesses caused by acute respiratory viral infections, by flu and by infection with the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) virus, we remind you of the recommendations addressed to the population:

consulting the family doctor at the appearance of respiratory symptoms to establish the diagnosis, therapeutic indications, isolation and possible additional investigations or even referral to health facilities if necessary; compliance with cough and sneeze etiquette (cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, using handkerchiefs disposable that you throw away after use or, in the absence of a handkerchief, it is recommended that when you cough or sneeze, you use the pocket of your elbow); maintaining adequate hand hygiene, in order to reduce the spread of viruses; intensifying measures to sanitize and disinfect spaces indoors, especially of spaces used in common; avoiding crowds, ventilating closed spaces and wearing a protective mask by people showing respiratory symptoms; influenza vaccination and/or vaccination against SARS-CoV-2, especially for the population at risk increased by illness or complications of these respiratory conditions — people over 65 years of age, pregnant women, immunosuppressed people, people with chronic respiratory or heart diseases; avoiding self-medication and unjustified antibiotic consumption; a healthy lifestyle with an optimal ratio between periods of exertion and periods of rest, increasing the body’s general resistance by consuming foods rich in vitamin C (fruits, vegetables), balanced diet, proper hydration, avoiding stress, wearing clothing and footwear suitable for atmospheric temperatures.

In order to increase the population’s access to medical services in case of acute respiratory diseases, DSP Bihor has recently updated the list of providers that carry out testing to detect the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Thus, in Bihor county, a number of 105 family doctors carry out rapid testing for the detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (of which 23 are in offices in the Municipality of Oradea and 82 in the other localities of the county) during the working hours of the office.
