Jakarta –
Stroke is a type of dangerous disease that can be fatal. Quoted from the website of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, this disease is triggered by blood circulation disorders in the brain. Stroke occurs when the blood vessels that carry oxygen and blood to the brain become blocked.
Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that stroke and heart disease are the diseases with the highest burden on BPJS Health funding. In 2022, heart disease will cost a total of IDR 12.14 trillion, while stroke will cost IDR 3.2 trillion.
“Apart from being the biggest burden on BPJS Health, this disease also causes the highest number of deaths in Indonesia,” said Minister of Health Budi in a Webinar on the YouTube channel of the Ministry of Health’s Directorate of Non-Communicable Diseases, Tuesday (17/10/2023).
“Therefore, how can we prevent and educate people so that they do not suffer from heart disease or stroke, it is much cheaper and much better for their quality of life,” he added.
According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2019, stroke is the highest cause of death in Indonesia. The number of deaths due to stroke reached 131.8 deaths per 100 thousand population.
Meanwhile, in second place is followed by ischemic heart disease or the cause of heart attacks at 95.8 deaths per 100 thousand population.
Furthermore, Minister of Health Budi reminded the public to continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This needs to be done as an effort to prevent various deadly diseases, especially stroke.
According to him, a healthy lifestyle has an important role in protecting the body from various diseases.
“After I noticed, what people really need to understand and what they need to do is maintain their diet and diligently exercise or do physical activity. Diets that have many risks and influence on cardiovascular problems, such as foods high in cholesterol, must be maintained,” he said.
“Then the physical activity that I always advocate is a minimum of 30 minutes per day and five days a week, which must also be done regularly without stopping, every day until we are old,” he continued.
Apart from maintaining a healthy pattern, he also asked the public to continue to carry out regular health checks. Diseases that are detected early will make the treatment process easier.
“Then don’t forget that the last thing is to carry out routine screening. Whether it’s blood screening, or with a heart ultrasound, or with a CT scan. In this way, we can face every problem related to cardiovascular well,” he concluded.
