JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Dr. Ari Fahrial Syam, SpPD, KGEH, MMB, FINASIM, FACP said that young adults are advised to avoid a sedentary lifestyle to prevent pancreatic cancer.
“Frankly speaking, this sedentary lifestyle or unhealthy lifestyle seems to be a trend. Young people eat high fat foods, for example steak, drink alcohol regularly, smoking has also become a culture, then they are obese and often unconscious. This is a risk of developing pancreatic cancer,” he said. Ari in an online discussion with the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) which he attended from Jakarta, Friday (5/1/2024).
Pancreatic cancer generally has the potential to occur in individuals aged 55 years and over. However, with the development of lifestyles such as a sedentary lifestyle, the potential for young adults in their 30s to develop pancreatic cancer is also increasing.

The doctor who is also a member of the IDI Executive Advisory Council explained that the pancreas in the body is a gland that is closely related to the digestive system because its function is to produce enzymes and to produce the hormone insulin.
If someone has a sedentary lifestyle, the organs in the body have to work harder to carry out metabolism, including the pancreas.
With its vital function as a producer of enzymes for digestion, if the food or drink consumed is devoid of nutrition and only worsens the performance of the pancreas, health problems will gradually occur, including the potential for cancer.
“Logically, foods high in fat such as red meat make the performance of the body’s organs heavier. If you look at their function, the pancreas creates enzymes. If their performance becomes heavier, that means it can cause problems, and if there is already a problem, meat is difficult to solve. digested, eventually there is chronic inflammation, then it becomes polyps, and leads to cancer,” said Ari, quoted from Between.
Apart from avoiding a sedentary lifestyle, Ari also suggests doing it regularly medical check-up (MCU) or general medical examination for people over 35 years old to prevent pancreatic cancer.
