JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com- The DKI Jakarta Health Office appealed to the public not to panic about the emergence of monkey pox or monkeypox.
Head of the Surveillance, Epidemiology and Immunization Section of the DKI Jakarta Health Office, Ngabila Salama, said that residents only need to be alert regarding the transmission of the disease.
Because, transmission of monkey pox It can occur through droplets in the form of phlegm or saliva that contaminate the environment or hands, skin contact, wound contact, body fluids, and sexual contact.
“The public should not panic, but need to be vigilant,” said Ngabila to reporters, Friday (20/10/2023).

Ngabila also shared several ways that people can do to prevent it transmission of monkey pox.
First, people are advised to take care by wearing masks, then washing their hands with running water and soap.
Then avoid physical contact with people who are sick with fever, have symptoms of redness, wounds, and watery skin on their skin.
“Don’t have sex if your partner is sick, especially if they have wounds in the genital area or are experiencing other sexually transmitted infections,” said Ngabila.

Another way is to avoid contact with the sufferer’s face, mouth, skin and everyday items used.
“If you find symptoms monkeypox such as fever, leaks filled with water or sores on the skin, especially accompanied by typical symptoms monkeypox “that is, there are lumps or enlarged lymph nodes in the armpits, neck, groin, groin, immediately come to a health facility,” said Ngabila.
“Conduct a laboratory examination. For close contacts of positive cases, an immediate laboratory examination is also carried out for early detection and treatment,” he continued.
Previously, the Health Department confirmed that there were new cases of exposed residents of the capital city monkeypox or monkey pox.
Ngabila said that a Jakarta resident was detected to have been exposed to monkey pox on October 19 2023. The resident was male.

“Add one positive case monkeypox “or monkey pox was only diagnosed last Thursday, October 19,” said Ngabila.
With this addition, a total of two residents in DKI Jakarta have been exposed to monkey pox.
Ngabila said that one case of monkey pox was previously detected in a resident of the capital city on October 12 2023.
“One case was on October 12. Another case was on October 19. And one year ago in August 2022, it was cured. All of them were found in Jakarta,” said Ngabila.
Apart from the positive cases of monkey pox, said Ngabila, there were two residents of DKI Jakarta who were suspected of having the same disease detected on October 18 2023.
“All those suspected were negative. On October 20 there were three additional suspected cases and the investigation process is ongoing,” said Ngabila.
