Some mothers suffer from high blood sugar after giving birth, which causes a disturbing set of symptoms, according to Dr. Ahmed Anwar, internal medicine and diabetes consultant.

Anwar said that high blood sugar after birth is a warning sign of the mother’s continued gestational diabetes, noting that its symptoms include:
– frequent urination.
– Extreme thirst.
– Feeling tired.
– Blurred vision.
– Vaginitis.

The internal medicine consultant explained that gestational diabetes usually disappears after birth, but it may persist in some mothers due to the following:
– Obesity.
– Following an unhealthy diet during pregnancy.
– Eat foods with a high glycemic index during pregnancy.

According to the Every Day Health website, the mother becomes more vulnerable to the continuation of gestational diabetes after birth if she has a family history of diabetes.
The medical website revealed: “If the mother does not quickly control gestational diabetes after giving birth, she will become vulnerable to type 2 diabetes and depression, in addition to the difficulties she will face during breastfeeding, as a result of decreased breast milk production.”

Anwar pointed out that it is easy to prevent the continuation of gestational diabetes after childbirth by the mother following some instructions, most notably:
– Follow a healthy diet rich in fiber, protein, iron and calcium.
– Regular exercise daily.
– Avoid sugary foods and drinks.
– Stay away from baked goods.
– Get enough sleep every night.
– Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
