Preventing Hepatitis: Vaccination and Education for Communicable Disease Control

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – PT Etana Biotechnologies Indonesia (Etana) in collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Health Office (Dinkes) held Health education and Appreciation for Communicable Disease Control with the theme ‘Immediately Test and Treat’.

This Health Education is part of the World Hepatitis Day Commemoration of DKI Jakarta Province which specifically discusses Hepatitis and Tuberculosis (TBC).

Regarding hepatitis, Dr. Imelda Maria Loho SpPD FINASIM said that hepatitis generally consists of hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E.

He explained that hepatitis A and E often cause jaundice which is caused by their spread fecal oral related to unclean living habits, contaminated food and drink, and poor sanitation.

Meanwhile, the spread of hepatitis B, continued Imelda, is slightly different.

“Many don’t realize it and suddenly it’s like blood transfusions, transplants, needles, and sex. Meanwhile in Indonesia, the majority of transmission is through mother to child,” Imelda said as quoted from an official statement received. Health Liputan6.com on Wednesday 6 September 2023.

How to Prevent Hepatitis

Imelda further explained that hepatitis can be prevented by vaccination.

“Hepatitis A vaccine for children starting at 12 months of age, two doses with an interval of six to 36 months. Meanwhile, for adults, it is available single or in combination with the hepatitis B vaccine in two doses with a range of zero, six, 12 months,” he said.

“Hepatitis B vaccination in children is done immediately after birth, before 24 hours,” he said.
