Liputan6.com, Jakarta – One of the symptoms of DHF or dengue hemorrhagic fever is characterized by the appearance of fever, but this condition is often considered an ordinary fever so that patients are taken to hospital late. This was conveyed by the Deputy Minister of Health (Wamenkes) of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Dante Saksono Harbuwono, in Jakarta, Wednesday (17/1).
“What was previously thought to be an ordinary fever, is actually a case of dengue fever,” said Dante in a speech video at the “Community’s Role in Protecting Families against the Threat of Dengue/DHF” event.
It is known that the death rate due to dengue fever reaches 1-50 to 50-122. One of the factors causing death due to dengue fever is because the patient was taken to the hospital too late.
Referring to data from the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), Dante said the dengue situation in Indonesia would reach 98,071 cases in 2023, with 764 deaths. Meanwhile in 2022, the death toll will reach 1,236 with 143,176 deaths.
The government, he added, has made various efforts to control dengue, starting from larvicide around the 1980s, fogging (fumigation) starting in the 1990s, then the Jumantik program in the 2000s.
“Hopefully we will get more efforts advance (progress) and better and earlier in an effort to overcome dengue hemorrhagic fever in the future,” he said.
Doctor from the Association of Indonesian Internal Medicine Experts Prof. Dr. Dr. Erni Juwita Nelwan, SpPD-KPTI, Ph.D, said that fever in dengue fever can last a few days and then improve so that patients are often considered cured. This condition can cause delays in treatment and then contribute to serious cases.
