jatim.jpnn.com, GRESS – In November, the Gresik District Health Office began to carry out special immunizations for Pneumococcal Conjugated Vaccine (PCV) for infants aged 2, 3 and 12 months.

The PCV vaccine is used to prevent babies from getting pneumonia, which they are susceptible to.

Head of the Surveillance and Immunization Section of the Gresik District Health Office, Nur Farida SKM, MM, explained that the immunization service will be carried out directly to pick up the ball for mothers who have babies.

“The schedule for routine immunization and PCV was postponed yesterday because it was still a pandemic. Because we were quite behind, we accelerated by picking up the ball,” he said in Gresik, Friday (29/10).

Meanwhile, Health Expert, Dr. dr. Dominikus Husada DTM&H, MCTM(TP) Sp.A(K) revealed that pneumonia is an inflammation of the lungs that can be caused by fungi, bacteria, viruses or chemicals.

“The most common cause is bacteria. Characteristically, babies have coughs and runny noses, hot bodies, and shortness of breath. Almost all of them start from coughing and then shortness of breath,” explained Dr. Domi

Dr. Domi added that pneumonia is most prone to be acquired in infancy or young age. The younger the age the more dangerous. In addition, babies who have less weight are also very vulnerable.

Therefore, added Dr. Domi, prevention must be done such as vaccines. (between/mcr17/jpnn)
