Dr. Xu leads a research and development team at LONGi with more than 500 scientists working on various topics related to PV technologies. Under his leadership, the team has set 14 world records for silicon solar cell efficiency and also holds efficiency records for HJT, HBC and PVSK/HJT tandem solar cells. On June 14, LONGi announced a new efficiency record of 34.6% for PVSK tandem solar cells in Shanghai, certified by the European Solar Test Installation.

Dr. Xu himself commented on the award: “I am deeply honored to receive the William R. Cherry Award. This award is not only for me, but for all employees of the LONGi Central R&D Institute. We will continue to work to develop even more innovative technologies and accelerate their commercialization.”

Li Zhenguo, Founder and President of LONGi, said: “On behalf of LONGi, I congratulate Dr. Xu Xixiang and his team on this remarkable award and their outstanding achievements in the photovoltaic industry. We are very grateful to Dr. Xu for his contributions and dedication.”

William R. Cherry, one of the founders of the photovoltaic community, played an important role in establishing solar cells as an energy source for space satellites as early as the 1950s. He also recognized the advantages of photovoltaic systems for terrestrial applications and advocated their use.
