Dispatch has revealed a lengthy dossier detailing the pressures artists have been under for the ‘World Scout Jamboree K-Pop Super Live’.
This August 11 took place this special concert, a concert that had been postponed due to security problems, but also because of the passage of the typhoon.
This year, South Korea organized the Jamboree, a global event bringing together Scouts from all over the world. However, this event was a failure and a real fiasco.
Tens of thousands of scouts from around the world have therefore been living in South Korea for the past few days for the event, with 40,000 young people aged 14 to 17 aiming to gather to exchange badges from different countries. Representatives from 155 countries were in South Korea at the time.
Unfortunately, the event faced immense challenges. First there was the heat wave that hit the country, the garbage bins that piled up, the grounds for Scouts camping infested with insects, and the unsanitary conditions in many places.
The event ended up being a national embarrassment, with hundreds of Scouts pulling out of the event and many falling ill from the heat waves.
The committee’s plan then was to turn this year’s Jamboree festival nightmare into a memorable K-POP event by hastily hosting a concert to save face.
In an effort to recover from the embarrassment of the failure of this event organized by the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the best entertainment agencies have been put under pressure. Many K-POP idols were invited to take the stage during the Jamboree concert.
According to Dispatch, the ministry then put a lot of pressure on agencies and artists to force them to participate in the concert. For example, many artists have been forced to change their whole schedule to appear at the festival, and agencies have been forced to provide products bearing the image of their artists for the festival in order to appease disappointed scouts, even if K-POP agencies and idols had nothing to do with this fiasco of an event that doesn’t even concern them.
According to Dispatch, HYBE notably sent BTS-branded merchandise at the request of the organizing committee, with the goal of collecting 45,000 K-POP products.
An agency representative told Dispatch that all were forced to comply with government demands, explaining: “We don’t have the power to reject a national event. We can only change our schedules to attend. »
For the artists currently in promotion, it was also a real headache to manage to arrange the schedule, between music shows, fansigns, interviews, photoshoots, filming, lives or other concerts. . This was particularly the case for THE BOYZ, ITZY and NCT DREAM, all in promotions but requested by the government.
But the organizing committee had no consideration for agencies and artists. The place of the event even changed twice, as did the date, which became very complicated for all the artists announced, and these decisions were made without discussing it with the agencies and artists concerned.
An entertainment agency manager complained: “We canceled all our artists’ activities for Sunday August 6, but they suddenly changed the date to 11. Then we had to change our schedule again for Friday. »
Another official explained: “Our artists have worked hard to create an album. If they change the place of the event and the date twice, our working hours are completely turned upside down. »
Additionally, Dispatch revealed that some agencies are concerned because there is no talk of payment being made to artists performing at the event. Indeed, the organizing committee hopes that the artists perform for free during the event.
An entertainment agency executive shared: “It costs more than 10 million won (6800 euros) just for the hair and makeup of our idols, but there is no mention of guarantees or payment, so it is difficult for us to even form a team. staff for the Jamboree event. »
