In an essay titled “How to Avoid Another World War,” posted on The Spectator’s website, Kissinger called for peace talks. This peace process, one way or another, must link Ukraine to NATO.
“The alternative of neutrality doesn’t matter anymore, especially after Finland and Sweden joined NATO,” he wrote as quoted by The viewerSaturday (17/12/2022).

This German-born politician again mentioned the ceasefire line he had recommended last May.
“Russia will release its conquests from there, but not the territories it occupied almost a decade ago, including Crimea,” he said.
“The area could become the subject of negotiations after the ceasefire,” he continued.
Kissinger said that if the pre-war demarcation line between Ukraine and Russia could not be reached through fighting or negotiation, other avenues for the principle of self-determination could be explored.

“An internationally supervised referendum on self-determination can be applied to a highly divisive territory that has changed hands repeatedly over the centuries,” Kissinger proposed.
