The town has to cut down 240 trees. The work is necessary as a result of the city’s tree inspections to ensure traffic safety and will begin in the coming days. The trees are inspected beforehand for breeding holes and nests.

Of the 240 trees, 48 ​​are street trees and 192 are in green areas. 123 trees have already died and another 46 are dying. Those affected include:

• Volksgarten (five trees)
• Lantz’scher Park (one tree)
• Benrath Castle Park (19 trees; 13 dead, one dying, three rotten trunks, two fungal infestations)
• North Park (three trees)
• Bolkerstraße (three trees)
• South Cemetery (five trees)
• Eller Castle Park (29 trees; 18 dead, seven dying, four with fungus)
• South Park (two trees)
• Schirmerstrasse (one tree)
• Eagle Street (tree)
• Unterrath Cemetery (two trees)
• Kaiserswerther Straße (two trees)
• Roman Road (one tree)
• Duisburger Straße (one tree)
• Rennbahnstraße (tree)
• Lenastraße (tree)
• Grevenbroicher Weg (two trees)
• Mackeln Castle Park (three trees)
• Elbroichpark (four trees)

Before the work begins, the city informs residents and travelers with banderoles on the affected trees. In addition, the administration communicates about the felling of trees through the Düsseldorf Maps map application https://maps.duesseldorf.de/ in the tree subject section.

The city’s goal is to replace as many places as possible. The administration initiates the so-called circulation procedures for the replacement of street trees. The network company, the city’s drainage company and Telekom, among others, check the nearby cable routes and their distance from the tree site. Necessary distances from traffic facilities and fire protection issues must also be taken into account.
