In a press release that we reproduce below, the Pride Marseille Organization team, which organizes the Pride March, announced late Friday afternoon that the event scheduled for Saturday has been postponed to a later date. The association explains that less than 24 hours before the event, the Prefecture of Police, which was to ensure security throughout the course, decided “to disengage” to carry out other tasks. The organization not being able to find a hundred people to supervise the procession in such a short time has therefore decided to postpone the March. The official evening at the Cartonnerie de la Friche de la Belle de Mai is maintained.
During the night from Friday to Saturday, gaypride.fr made a score of the other events planned for July 1. All are confirmed, and their safety will be assured.
PRIDE WALK POSTPONED
Tomorrow, Saturday July 1 at 2 p.m. at Porte d’Aix, we were to march to claim our rights, which are too often questioned, and to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Pride Marseille.
The Prefecture of Police had to ensure the safety of the march by blocking traffic and making traffic more fluid. Following the death of Nahel and the recent events that took place in Marseille and throughout the country, the Prefecture of Police decided to withdraw from the security system to ensure other missions and expressly asked us to hold these circulation points.
Less than 24 hours from the event, Pride Marseille is not able to find a hundred competent people to carry out these missions with the logistics that this implies (light and heavy vehicles, vests, signage, etc.).
The Fierté Marseille Organization team has therefore decided to postpone the Pride March to a later date. The whole team, mobilized since September 2022, is angry and disappointed with this decision, but the safety of our community is paramount.
However, in order to maintain the viability of our Pride Marseille Organization association, which is also in charge of the future LGBTQIA+ Center, we have decided to maintain our official evening at the Cartonnerie Friche Belle de Mai. This evening will allow us to make our community visible and to highlight our demands and to offer LGBTQIA+ people a place of refuge, information and conviviality in this particular and difficult context for all.
Tuesday, a child died under the bullets of a policeman: Pride Marseille is sad and revolted. We condemn all police violence and support Nahel’s family and loved ones.
