Ouagadougou, December 13, 2023 : It is today 25 years since the voice of investigative journalist Norbert Zongo was brutally silenced. Despite all these years, the quest for justice for this cowardly assassination remains unsolved. The recent decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union to block the extradition procedure of the alleged culprit exiled in France, is an unfortunate symbol of the persistent obstacles in this quest for justice.
This sad anniversary recalls the urgency for national and international civil society organizations to work to ensure that the voices of journalists are never silenced, that their courageous quests for truth and transparency are protected and that justice is served. , not only for Norbert Zongo, but for every journalist killed in the exercise of their profession.
