The Ministry of Health (MINSA) reports that due to the work they carry out in the front line of battle against COVID-19, health personnel, as well as members of the Joint Task Force, Firefighters, National Police, SINAPROC , SENAN and SUME 9-11, among others, can be mobilized during the days of total quarantine and curfew duly identified in accordance with the provisions of Executive Decree 507 of March 24, 2020 (published in the Official Gazette).
Likewise, workers from the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), the National Aqueduct and Sewer Institute (IDAAN) and the Urban and Home Cleaning Authority (AAUD) are covered by this Decree.
The MINSA also highlights that these personnel will be able to enter commercial establishments to make their purchases regardless of the day that corresponds to their sex and that this mobility restriction measure does not affect purchases in establishments such as gas stations, laboratories and banks. .
Meanwhile, the head of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, emphasizes that in the face of a national emergency, the Sanitary Code of Panama establishes sanctions for those who fail to comply with the rules established to combat the pandemic.
“This fight is about co-responsibility, the National Government, the population and the business sector, therefore, we do not rule out taking stronger measures,” said Sucre.
Currently the rate of contagion is dizzying, said the Minister of Health, so every day the figures are evaluated for decision-making.
On the other hand, it is reported that the campaign hospital has already been installed next to the San Miguel Arcángel Hospital in San Miguelito.
This facility has a capacity for 40 beds and will allow treating moderate COVID-19 patients who need nasal cannulas and oxygen concentrators and thus decongest other areas of this hospital center.
The adaptation of this facility had the support of the Ministry of Education (MEDUCA) and the Ministry of the Environment (My environment).
Epidemiological report
In the world, there are 44, 116,768 recovered people, while a total of 78, 130,493 accumulated positive cases due to COVID-19 and 1,719,748 deaths are added for a fatality percentage of 2.2%.
For today, Wednesday, December 23, in Panama, there are 178,140 recovered patients, 3,059 new positive cases, for a cumulative total of 220,261.
To date, 14,239 tests were applied, for a percentage of positivity of 21.4% and 32 new deaths have been registered, totaling 3,664 accumulated and a fatality of 1.7%.
Active cases total 38,457. In home isolation, 36,589 people are reported, of which 35,869 are at home and 720 in hotels. There were 1,868 hospitalized and 1,686 of them were in the ward and 182 in the ICU.
