Due to the concerns about the new omikron variant, the outgoing cabinet is forced to extend the current corona package by a few weeks.
That means that the ‘evening lockdown’ will remain, even after New Year’s Eve. The advice to receive a maximum of four people at home will also not be extended for the holidays.
Acceleration booster campaign
The weekly average of corona infections may have fallen in recent days, but the figures are still much too high. The care departments and ICs are full and some hospitals have to postpone planned care. The advancing omikron variant is also a cause for concern.
That is why Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) is announcing an acceleration of the booster campaign tonight, he said already know yesterday. Tonight, De Jonge will explain exactly what those plans will look like.

Schools closed earlier?
Whether the Christmas holidays for primary schools will start a week earlier has yet to be decided. Earlier, outgoing minister Arie Slob (Education) said that he did not feel like it, but the option is still seriously on the table due to concerns about the new variant.
The Outbreak Management Team (OMT) has again been asked for advice about the schools. De Jonge said about this yesterday: “Of course you would prefer to keep the schools open, but you will always have to act according to the situation at that moment.” And that situation is very worrying, he emphasized.
This morning there will be a consultation with the ministers involved and a final decision will be made about the schools.
