While government politicians were rather optimistic at the beginning of the week, in the following days they admitted that although the risk index remained at grade 3, new infection numbers were falling more slowly than expected and the loosening predicted by the system was uncertain.

Minister of Health Jan Blatný (YES), whose recommendation may be key in the government’s decision-making, emphasizes that “PES is not a robot”. However, in introducing the system, the Minister emphasized its predictability.

“The main goal of the new PES assessment is to increase the readability and predictability of the current epidemiological situation. We want the public to have an idea of the situation in their region and whether they should prepare for the dismantling or tightening of the established measures, “said Blatný.
