Presis Vegdrift professionals Fredrik Dahl and Chris Ruben Erfjord clear away snow from stairs outside Sørlandssenteret amid demanding driving conditions.

CHRISTIAN SPIRIT (KRS): – We teach the young people to shovel snow, laughs Presis Vegdrift professional, Fredrik Dahl, while he and apprentice Chris Ruben Erfjord clear away snow from the stairs outside Sørlandssenteret.

KRS meets Fredrik Dahl and Chris Ruben Erfjord in Sørlandsparken on Tuesday afternoon. Presis Vegdrift’s preparedness has been high for a long time, and they have worked hard to ensure the best possible accessibility for pedestrians and drivers.

– There are many of us at work now who work in shifts. We have several teams out covering a large area. We have people from Timenes in the east to Mandal in the west, says Dahl.

Dahl and Erfjord have quite different times in the profession, but despite their different experience, they agree on one thing:

– I have never been involved in anything like this before. I have shoveled some stairs, but nowhere near the scale we do now. It’s quite wild, says Erfjord.

– We are not spoiled by snowy weather like this. Now it’s full, and there’s something fun about it, Dahl adds, while snow and wind whip him in the face.

Suddenly colleague Ragnar comes running down the stairs with a snowblower.

– You must bring this with you! It’s not every day we snowplow stairs, laughs Dahl.

Demanding driving conditions

A lot of snow makes driving conditions difficult. Fredrik Dahl in Presis Vegdrift has the impression that people leave their cars to a greater extent.

– Compared to the traffic we could have had on New Year’s Day, there are not many cars around. It could have been much worse, says Dahl.

Snow and wind cause poor visibility on the roads. The weather combination also makes for demanding driving. The storm will last until Thursday. The Swedish Road Administration asks people to think before they drive:

– We therefore ask road users to consider whether they have to go out and drive. If you have to go out on the road, you should plan your trip well and calculate extra travel time. Pay extra attention, keep a good distance from the driver in front, and drive according to the conditions. Naturally, all vehicles must also be covered for winter driving, says department director Tore Jan Hansen in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
