Presidium of the Federal Bar Association (BRAK) Re-Elected at 164th Annual General Meeting

As part of the 164th Annual General Meeting on October 13, 2023, the presidents of the 28 bar associations re-elected the Presidium of the Federal Bar Association (BRAK).

Lawyer and notary Dr. Ulrich Wessels was once again and unanimously confirmed in his office as President of the BRAK by the entire general meeting. Wessels, a specialist lawyer in administrative and family law, has been a member of the Executive Board as Second Vice President since September 2015 and President of the BRAK since September 2018. Wessels advises his clients primarily on family law, sales law, property law and corporate law issues.

The President of the Hanseatic Bar Association of Hamburg, lawyer Dr. Christian Lemke elected. The specialist lawyer for IT law and intellectual property law has been advising clients on the topics of IT law, intellectual property law, copyright and competition law for many years. From 2015 to 2017, Lemke was head of the German delegation to the Council of European Bars (CCBE). He is a member and chairman of the CCBE’s “Future of the Legal Profession and Legal Services” committee, a member of the BRAK Europe Committee and has previously been responsible for the special electronic lawyer mailbox (beA) on the executive board.

The second vice president was and remains lawyer André Haug, President of the Karlsruhe Bar Association. In his law firm, Haug works primarily in the areas of intellectual property law, competition law and public procurement law. At BRAK, Haug has previously been responsible for, among other things, professional law, data protection law and, in the international area, Israel, Turkey and Central and Eastern Europe. North Africa. Haug is a member of the overall board of the German Association for Intellectual Property and Copyright (GRUR) and a lecturer at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg.

The President of the Celle Bar Association, Dr. Thomas Remmers elected. In addition to his notarial work, the lawyer and notary as well as a specialist in administrative law focuses on advising on corporate and commercial law issues. Since 2015, he has been chairman of the public relations committee and the Legal Tech working group and chairman of the jury for the German Bar Association’s Caricature Prize.

As 4th Vice President, the BRAK welcomes lawyer Sabine Fuhrmann, President of the Saxony Bar Association, to the Presidium. Fuhrmann advises young companies, SMEs and international companies on the establishment, expansion and sale of companies. As chamber president, Fuhrmann’s main priorities are to develop the legal profession and combat the shortage of skilled workers. She is deputy chairwoman of the Forum Recht eV support association and a member of the Association of German Women Entrepreneurs. She has been involved in the BRAK Legal Services Act Committee since 2020.

The successor to the long-standing treasurer, lawyer Michael Then, who did not stand for re-election after 8 years in office and who was farewelled with a standing ovation by the general meeting, will be lawyer Leonora Holling, President of the Düsseldorf Bar Association. She is deputy chairwoman of the Law and Political Science Association and advises primarily in the area of ​​energy law. In her voluntary work, the topics of sustainability in the legal profession and an appropriate adjustment of fees to the current economic conditions are important to her.
