The participation rate stood at noon at 25.34% at the departmental level and 26.59% in Montpellier.
Montpellier voted much less this morning, for the 2022 presidential election, compared to previous years. The participation rate, at midday, was indeed 26.59%, when it was 30.09% in 2017. This was already down sharply compared to 2012 (34.16%) and 2007 (38.63%).
This lower participation, at noon, is not specific to Montpellier. At the departmental level too, there is a drop in the number of ballots slipped into the ballot box after four hours of voting. It was indeed in the Hérault at 25.34%, or about six points less than five years ago (31.81%).
Abstention should therefore be higher for this 2022 election. An analysis that can be refined with the participation figures at 5 p.m.
