Presidential in Gabon: 27 candidates submitted Presidential in Gabon: 27 candidates submitted

Libreville, Monday, July 17, 2023 (Gabon Info) – The Gabonese Elections Center has received 27 applications for this election scheduled for August 26th.

They are 27 Gabonese personalities to have each submitted a candidacy file to the Gabonese Election Center (CGE) for the presidential election of August 26, 2023. Among the registered candidacies, prominently appear the outgoing president, Ali Bongo Ondimba, candidate of the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG), which acts as the super favourite, Paulette Missambo on behalf of the National Union, Victoire Lasseni Duboze, president of the Union of Alliances for a New Africa (UANA), Alexandre Barro Chambrier of the Rassemblement for the Fatherland and Modernity (RPM) and Jean Boniface Assélé, President of the Center of Liberal Reformers (CLR), among others. Yet a declared candidate, Bertrand Zibi Abeghe has given up his candidacy. “Given the stakes, a second time, as in 2016, I agree to sacrifice myself for the Gabonese people. This is why today and now, I announce to you the withdrawal of my candidacy for the presidency of 2023”, he declared.

As for the legislative and local elections, a panoply of candidates was also registered in the dismemberments of the CGE through the nine provinces of Gabon. All registered applications must be sent to Libreville where a plenary session will be held during which each application will be examined. Successful applications must be made public no later than July 26. One month before the election.
