Through the Liberal Party (PL), the political formation to which he belongs, Jair Bolsonaro, defeated in the last Brazilian presidential elections by Lula, has asked for the cancellation of votes from over 280,000 electronic ballot boxes. Which would have given him the ultimate victory.
The Brazilian presidential election may not be over. Former outgoing Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro asked the Higher Electoral Court (TSE) on Tuesday to cancel votes from electronic ballot boxes whose technical malfunctions have been demonstrated, in an audit report commissioned by the Liberal Party. At least 5 models would be affected.
If justice agrees with the Bolsonaro camp and pronounces the cancellation of the requested votes cast, then the conservative would win the runoff, with 51.05% of the vote, according to PL projections.
Alexandre de Moraes, president of the TSE, responded to the complaint by explaining that these models of ballot boxes indicated had been used not only in the second round, but also in the first, on 2 October. He therefore asks that the complaint “concern the two towers”, under penalty of rejection without even having been analyzed.
Expected consequences on legislative elections
It remains that a cancellation of part of the votes obtained in October would also have consequences for the legislative elections, which took place on the same day, in the same polling stations.
In fact, this would call into question the election of many parliamentarians from the Pl, which obtained the largest number of deputies and senators, prevailing over the opposing parties.
