Presidential Candidate to Attend International Labor Day Commemoration in Jakarta Tomorrow

The general chairman of the Labor Party Said Iqbal claims that there will be a presidential candidate (bacapres) who will attend the commemoration of International Labor Day or May Day in Jakarta tomorrow. Readpres PDI Perjuangan Ganjar Pranowo brushed off that there would be a Labor Day commemoration demonstration tomorrow.

“No workers,” said Ganjar at the PDIP DPP Office, Jalan Diponegoro, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Sunday (30/4/2023).

Ganjar said May Day in Central Java will be commemorated on May 5 2023. Meanwhile in Jakarta it will be commemorated tomorrow.

“For May Day in Central Java on the 5th, the plan is for the celebration on the 5th. Here, it’s Jakarta,” added Ganjar.

Previously, the Labor Party and labor unions would hold demonstrations to commemorate Labor Day or May Day on May 1, 2023 tomorrow. The masses will hold demonstrations at several points in Jakarta such as the Horse Statue and Istora Senayan area.

President of the All Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPSI) Andi Gani Nena Wea said preparations for May Day had reached almost 100%. In DKI Jakarta alone there are 50 thousand workers who will take to the streets.

“Ujung Pandang, Kalimantan, West Java, East Java around 40 thousand people descend, Yogyakarta. There are 10 big cities that will descend massively tomorrow. The preparations are complete, they are almost 100%. So we only stay at the horse statue for about 3 hours , immediately moved to Istora Senayan,” said Andi Gani at the Senayan Panahan Square, Jakarta, Sunday (30/4/2023).

Andi Gani said that in commemoration of May Day the demands that will be voiced are the repeal of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation, the revocation of the 4% parliamentary threshold, refusing low wages, paying attention to migrant workers and arresting all the human trafficking mafia.

“100 souls have died from abroad, therefore we ask the government to act decisively to arrest the mafia, arrest whoever is involved because it is already clear. The evidence is very clear, so if it is still not followed up, we will prepare a big action to the palace if it comes to the trafficking mafia. people are not arrested,” he said.

On the occasion of May Day tomorrow, presidential candidates (candidates) Ganjar Pranowo claimed to be scheduled to attend. He is the only presidential candidate invited by the trade unions.

“A presidential candidate will most likely attend Istora Senayan. The strongest president is currently planning to attend, we are waiting for confirmation this afternoon whether or not the presidential candidate will attend Istora Senayan. (Mr. Yes, Mr. Ganjar,” he said.

Andi Gani openly stated that the majority of workers support Ganjar for President in 2024. Even so, official support is said to be delivered in June 2023.

“I emphasize that most of the largest labor confederations in Indonesia all out support Ganjar Pranowo. Governors who want to go out to meet workers, who are willing to have dialogue regardless of the outcome. A leader who wants to meet his people, wants to meet demonstrators is extraordinary. Direct dialogue, no barriers, there are no limits, just listening is extraordinary,” he said.

“I’m sure it will be announced around the beginning or end of June, but if you ask the signal is clear,” he added.
