Presidential Candidate Ganjar Pranowo Asks for Public Support Before Fulfilling Commitments

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Presidential candidate number three, Ganjar Pranowo, asked the public to support him first in the 2024 presidential election before fulfilling his promise.

This was conveyed after being asked by the moderator of the “Discussion of Ideas for a Just Transition” event held by The Habibie Center, Jakarta, Thursday (23/11/2023).

Initially, the moderator asked whether environmental issues and a just energy transition were Ganjar Pranowo’s passion or just demands due to the pressure of him being a presidential candidate.

Ganjar answered that realizing energy that is just is not a passion or a demand, but rather a necessity.

“This is a necessity, not just a passion. If it’s just a passion, yes, he wants this, others don’t want it. So, if he has to be a leader, if he wants to be a leader, he has to be willing to listen to everyone and see what happens they have to fix,” said Ganjar answering the question.

Hearing this answer, the moderator asked again whether this answer was Ganjar’s commitment which he could later collect when he became President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Ganjar invited the moderator and the wider community to collect this commitment. However, he believes that the public needs to support him first before fulfilling this promise.

“Please (charge) but support first,” answered Ganjar, accompanied by loud laughter from the event participants.

The moderator who heard this answer laughed too.

Ganjar continued his answer. He was actually surprised if the public asked for commitments even though they did not support him in the presidential election.

“Well, what are you going to charge me for if you don’t support me, right?” he said.

“Yes, a responsibility is followed by action like that,” continued the former Governor of Central Java with a small laugh.

“You can answer that, yes,” said the moderator, laughing.

It should be noted that Ganjar Pranowo will be paired with vice presidential candidate Mahfud MD in the 2024 presidential election.

This pair is supported by four political parties, namely PDI-P, PPP, Perindo and Hanura.
