Presidential Candidate Anies Baswedan Reflects on Bung Karno’s Legacy in Bengkulu

Jakarta

Presidential candidate number 1 Anies Baswedan visited Bung Karno’s exile house in Bengkulu, yesterday. Anies talked about the founder of the Republic of Indonesia who did not prioritize his own personality or group.

During the visit, Anies saw several historical collections from Indonesia’s first president. Anies also took time to wash his face at the well located behind the historic house.

Anies was amazed because at that time the educated people were fighting for a country that gave everyone the opportunity to grow and develop.

“This republic was founded by educated individuals, intellectuals, intellectuals whose minds were formed not only by reading but by life experience. They experienced oppression, they experienced detention, and they had broad insight,” said Anies, in a written statement, Thursday. (7/12/2023).

“While they are the children of the rich and they founded the Republic for all, not for their children, not for their nephews, not for their group but for all,” he added.

Anies invited all parties to return to the ideals of the Republic of Indonesia, namely bringing justice to all people.

“Today we went to Bengkulu to stop by where Bung Karno lived from 38 to 42. We want to remind ourselves and everyone. Let’s return to the original ideals of the founders of this republic, they founded the Republic to bring social justice,” said Anies.

Furthermore, Anies also has a commitment to developing various historical destinations. Anies will make improvements and innovations to make historical places more interesting to visit.

“Secondly, the commitment that we have observed means that these places will be looked after and developed and made more attractive so that more young people have the opportunity to learn,” he said.
